No. Every course, every drill and the whole coach work without one, and a profile is made on your device the first time you visit.
You can create one with an email address or with Google, from the Profile page. An account carries your progress between devices: finish a lesson on a laptop and the phone has it. Without one, everything still works and stays on the one device — “Export my data” on the Profile page is how you move it by hand.
Signing out never deletes anything. Your practice stays on the device it was done on.
Typing Fundamentals, from lesson one. It starts with two keys and adds the rest of the alphabet over twelve lessons. If you already touch-type and want a level, take a sixty-second test on the Practice page instead — one real run places you in the curriculum automatically.
Fifteen minutes a day beats two hours on Sunday, by a wide margin and for well-understood reasons. The daily plan on the Learn page sizes itself to the minutes you say you have.
The finger map and the on-screen keyboard assume QWERTY today, so the coach's finger attribution will be wrong on Dvorak or Colemak even though the speed and accuracy figures stay correct. Layout support is on the list.
Because net WPM counts only the characters you got right on the first attempt, and many sites report something closer to raw. Both numbers are on your results screen, and the distance between them is the more useful figure.
First-try accuracy judges each position once, when you first reach it. Repairs fix the text but not the record, because the skill being measured is hitting the right key rather than catching the wrong one quickly.
How even your keystroke rhythm is, scaled so a fast and a slow typist who are equally steady score the same. It is often the first thing to improve and the best early sign that a habit is settling. Below a usable number of keystrokes it shows nothing rather than a guess.
Because it refuses to answer when it cannot answer honestly. A trend slope under 0.05 WPM per day is inside the noise, and a fit whose R² is under 0.2 means the scatter is bigger than the pattern.

No, and they say so throughout. Typepace cannot run your code or grade its output. What the coding courses build is syntax fluency: you type real idiomatic code until brackets, colons and indentation stop costing you attention, and each lesson carries a note explaining what the construct does.
That is a genuine and well-established way to learn a language's surface. It is not a substitute for writing and running your own programs.
They are an honest record that you hit a stated speed and accuracy on this platform, with a verification number printed on them. They are not an accredited qualification and no employer has agreed to recognise them.
Anyone can check a number at typepace.com/verify, from any device and without an account. It looks the certificate up in our registry and shows it in full — the name, the tier, the measured speed and accuracy, and the date. Certificates earned before you signed in upload to the registry the first time you do.
